This course prepares students for AWS Entry Level I certification. An overview of safety, metal preparation, SMAW welding, electrode selection, joint welds, bead placement and oxy-acetylene cutting will be covered. Students must have their own safety/welding equipment: welding helmet, safety glasses, gloves, wire brush, chipping hammer, vise grips, welding leathers and cutting glasses (shade 5). Prerequisite: None. *$60 Shop Fee included in Tuition.
Advanced Welding for AWS Certification

This is a course designed to refine the student’s previously acquired welding skills and prepare the student to pass welding certification test. This is a technical course for the advanced welding student. Material covered will include date on all approved welding processes, welding filler metals, approved welding joint design, and welding procedures. Special emphasis will be placed on welding symbols and American Welding Society (AWS) Structural Code specification leading to AWS welding certifications. Students may take two certification exams per course session. This course may be repeated as many times as desired since the course content varies and skills are enhanced by supervised repetition and practice. Students may take additional AWS certification exams during the course period at an additional charge of $125 per exam. This cost and the scheduling requirements will be explained in depth at the first class meeting. All phases of welding will be taught in this class to include electric ARC, carbons ARC, MIG & TIG. Prerequisite: Basic Welding or equal trade experience. *$60 Shop Fee included in Tuition. Students to complete modular competency based national recognized American Welding Society certification in the following areas: Welding with AWS Certification/Entry Level Welder (19 modules) #09103-09107, Advanced Welder (14 modules) #09103-09304, Expert Welder (5 modules) #09205-09308. Students must have their own safety and welding equipment.
